The Review Board is offering a 16-week, full-time summer internship in Yellowknife to a post-secondary student—or a recent graduate of a recognized post-secondary program—with an academic and professional interest in any of the following:

  • Environmental science
  • Natural resource management
  • Community development

Hearing for Gahcho Kue Judicial Review

DeBeers Canada Mining Ltd. filed an application on July 28, 2006 for a judicial review of MVEIRB's decision to send the Gahcho Kue Diamond Mine project to an Environmental Impact Review. The court hearing is scheduled for November 21, 2006. This hearing is open to the general public and is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Please contact MVEIRB for more information.

Reasons for Decision & Report of Environmental Assessment for SDL8

The MVEIRB has released the Reasons for Decision and Report of Environmental Assessment for Paramount Resources' proposed Significant Discovery License 8 Seismic Program. The Review Board has determined that, with the appropriate mitigation measures developed by the Review Board, the proposed project is not like to be cause of significant adverse environmental impacts or public concern. MVEIRB has recommended to the Minister of Indian and Northern Development that the project proceed to the regulatory phase.

Ur Energy EA draft work plan

The Review Board invites the public to comment on the draft Work plan for EA0607-003 of Ur Energy's proposed uranium exploration project until
Friday, October 6, 2006. Visit the Public Registry for details.

Tamerlane Ventures EA

The draft Terms of Reference and the Workplan for EA0607-002 Tamerlane Ventures Inc. Pine Point Pilot Project are now available for public review and comment.

The deadline for submitting your comments to the Review Board is Thursday, September 21 at 5 p.m.

New Environmental Assessment

Environment Canada referred a proposed underground mining operation at the former Pine Point mine site to the Review Board.The operation, proposed by Tamerlane Ventures Ltd., is planned to be a 1,000,000 tonne bulk lead/zinc sample.

CANCELLED: Lutsel K'e Community Scoping Hearing

The Mackenzie Valley Environmental Impact Review Board would like to advise interested parties that the April 4th, 2006 Lutsel K’e community scoping hearing for the Environmental Assessment of DeBeers' Gahcho Kue Diamond Mine has been CANCELLED. An alternate date has not been set at this time.

The community hearings scheduled for Dettah and Behchoko are still planned as scheduled.

Regrettably, Mr. Bayha and Ms. Stewart informed the Review Board this week that they are no longer seeking reappointment, in part, due to delays in the federal appointment process. Their terms as Review Board members ended last month.

Seeking candidates for environmental impact review panel

The Mackenzie Valley Environmental Impact Review Board is seeking candidates for the environmental impact review panel of De Beers' proposed Gahcho Kué diamond mine.

Cooperation Agreement signed between YESAB and MVEIRB

The Yukon Environmental and Socio-economic Assessment Board and the Mackenzie Valley Environmental Impact Review Board signed a Cooperation Agreement June 8, 2006 in Whitehorse. The Cooperation Agreement ensures both boards will assess transboundary developments in a timely and efficient manner.

Translator Workshop and Glossary

During the week of January 31st - Feb 2nd, the Mackenzie Valley Environmental Impact Review Board partnered with the Protected Areas Secretariat to host another translator workshop for Protected Areas key terminology and scientific terminology. The glossary additions coming from this workshop will be made available later in March. The current glossary is posted in the "Reference Library" - Other Resources.

MVRMA Key Terminology

The Mackenzie Valley Environmental Impact Review Board has prepared the attached draft reference bulletin to describe how it has operationally interpreted selected key terms in the Mackenzie Valley Resource Management Act (MVRMA). This has been done to improve clarity for the benefit of all parties involved in the Review Board’s assessments.
